Three whole days with Dada!
This weekend you and I had three days full of adventure, fun, and even some scary moments. The weekend started out really early on Saturday morning when you got to see the airport up close, this time though instead of dropping Daddy off you waved Bye - Bye to Mommy. As she headed off to Arizona you and I started our long weekend adventure! The first thing we did was to 'hit the trail' at round lake with Titus.
You smiled in the backpack the entire way around the lake and learned the word ' Tree' or as you say 'tee'. After a fun stop at Costco where you had the best sample of all, rotisserie chicken! We finally made it back home. Tired and even a little muddy we looked forward to a great Sunday.
All Sunday morning we played around the house until it was time for nap time. This time Daddy learned that your little friend Scout was a little too much entertainment, keeping you awake through your nap, Scout is now your friend who now sleeps in the closet! Somehow you managed to get a little sleep as I got your pack ready for our next adventure at Round Lake....
On the Trail Again, this time we started with Titus from the bottom parking lot planning to hike all the way to the top to do our normal loop and then all the way back to car. Things were going great. Titus was leading the way up the hill, we passed a couple and the woman said, "Way to go Dad" when she saw you grinning away in the pack. That made your Dad feel really good. About 2/3rds the way around the lake, and after singing lots of your "Hiking ABC's" we started down one of the last hills that look down on the lake. I must have been concentrating too much on singing because right before the bottom of the hill I missed seeing a small ditch. The next thing I knew, my ankle was twisting and I had a terrible feeling that we were about to take our first fall with you riding 'shotgun' in the back carrier!
I hit the ground first with my knees and elbows trying to fight the laws of physics that were doing everything in their power to roll me over, which would mean rolling over you! I thought we were in the clear just as the pack carrying you started to rise up just enough to keep us spinning! Right after that I felt myself rolling on to you and the back pack, I scrambled to roll the rest of the way around! I did and thankfully the first thing I heard was you! You were screaming as I quickly sat up, got you upright, and got you out of the pack to check you all over for any injuries. You screamed for a few more moments and then said 'Ma Ma, Da Da ' and settled down. You were still scared but didn't suffer any Owies, and were laughing again in a few minutes. I wasn't so lucky, as I looked down I noticed that I was bleeding through my favorite hiking pants, but my ankle seemed only a bit sore, so it looked like you were going back in the pack to finish out the hike.
Some really nice people stopped to help us and after I had you out and checked over they asked if they could give us a ride back to to the car. Since they wouldn't have had a car seat, and we also had titus in tow, we had to hike the rest of the way around the lake then down the rest of the trail to the car. I got you back in the pack, tightened up my boot around my ankle and we made it all the way back to the car! What an adventure!
When we got home you raced inside saying mama and looking everywhere for her. You really missed your mama
Picking up Mommy
All of Monday morning we played outside, read books inside, and picked up the house to make sure that Mommy had a nice clean house to come home to. That evening after a short trip to REI we came home, did the PJ and bath time dash, just in time to leave to get Mommy from the airport. You were saying Mom Mom all the way there. When we finally pulled up the curb where she was standing you just beamed a huge smile and said MaMa loud enough for everyone standing there to hear! A man standing next to Mommy said that seeing you smile like that was the best thing he had seen all day!
I loved our time together and I loved having Mommy safely back home!
